Understanding Your Insurance Plan Options

Medical insurance is important for people of all ages and lifestyles. Your medical insurance plan can be your best friend or your worst enemy. To ensure that you have the right insurance coverage for your unique situation, you may want to speak with a health insurance provider about your options.

There are various plans available to people of all ages. If you are a senior citizen, there are specific seniors’ health insurance plans that can work with your current income and health care needs to provide you with a specialized package. Your medical needs are different from people that are not in your age category, so why use the same insurance plan as them?

Along with having several plans to choose from based on your age, your current health condition will also have a huge impact on what insurance plans are available to you. For instance, if you are currently in bad health, there will be fewer health insurance plans available to you. Also keep in mind that depending on your current health, or health needs, your insurance deductible or premium will be considerably higher than someone in good health with minimal health care needs.

An important option to consider includes the deductible that you are interested in paying. What many people find works well for them is to pay a large deductible, but a low premium. What this means is that in the event that you need to visit a doctor, hospital, or medical provider, you will pay a large deductible, such as a $500 or $1,000 deductible, but your monthly premiums will be considerably lower than the average premium. These high deductible insurance plans are usually ideal for people who do not need to be seen by a medical provider very often. This provides you with the peace of mind that the insurance coverage is readily available to you, while allowing you to avoid the high, and often unnecessary, monthly premium.

When reviewing potential health insurance plans, make sure to consider any unique problems that you may be experiencing. For instance, if you are at high risk for cancer, you may want to search for a plan that provides cancer and chemotherapy coverage. Most importantly, just make sure that you do your homework to find the right health insurance plan for you. If you are in doubt, call and speak with a medical insurance provider. They can answer any questions that you may have to ensure that you are well covered and taken care of.

The Basics Of How Car Insurance Works

How does car insurance work? Many people wouldn't have a clear answer to this question, even though it's likely that they pay for car insurance every month. Since most states require that all registered vehicles carry a basic insurance policy, it's important to understand what you're buying. Also, car insurance can protect you from financial crisis if you cause an accident that causes injuries and substantial damage to very expensive cars. It's wise to educate yourself about the basics of car insurance so you can make sure you have adequate insurance coverage and understand what you are buying. Working with a local insurance agency, such as Carlin & Associates Insurance Inc., can make understanding your car insurance policy much easier.

Your state requires that you carry liability insurance. This type of insurance will pay for damages that you owe to another person, if you cause an accident that results in damage to their vehicle or even injury. Your insurance company will pay to repair or replace their vehicle, for their medical bills, and for their pain and suffering up to the limits of your liability coverage. It's important to make sure you carry high enough limits to cover these costs in the worst case scenario. If you have a loan on your car, your bank will also require that you carry collision and comprehensive coverage. This type of coverage will pay to repair or replace your car if you cause an accident or if you're hit by someone not carrying insurance.

Although this article addresses the very basics of auto insurance, sitting down with a licensed agent from a local insurance agency, such as Carlin & Associates Insurance Inc., will help you gain a better understanding of why insurance is important as well as help evaluate whether you are carrying enough insurance coverage for your current situation.

3 Types Of Insurance You Should Have For Your Business

When you're starting a new business, you have a lot on your mind. You have to get the proper licenses, find a location, develop your brand, find clients, create a marketing strategy, hire employees, and a million other things. Chances are there, insurance is not on the forefront of your mind. However, if you're going to run a business in today's world, having the right business insurance is just as important as having a good product. Without it, you are putting your business at risk. Here are 3 types of insurance that you need to protect your company. For more information on any of these services, visit www.carlininsurance.net.

Worker's Compensation

If you are hiring even one employee, you need to get worker's compensation insurance. This protects you should your employees be injured on the job. You may think that, if the work your employees are doing is not labor intensive, you don't need to worry about them getting hurt. This is simply not true.

An injury can occur by simply slipping on a wet bathroom floor, or receiving an electric shock from a badly wired computer. Even the simplest of work can turn into a hazard at the drop of a hat. And if something does happen while they are on the job, your employees will look to you for compensation. If you don't have worker's compensation insurance, you will be responsible for paying for their medical bills and disability leave out of your own pocket.

General Liability

So, if worker's compensation covers employees who get injured at work, what happens when a customer is injured at your place of business? This can be a scary thought if you don't have the right insurance. If a customer slips on your floors, or has an unstable shelf fall on them, you are going to be personally responsible, and those costs can add up quickly. You can be sued for everything from medical bills to lost wages to general pain and suffering.

General liability insurance protects you from these situations. It also protects you if something goes wrong with the products you are selling. If someone buys a faulty product and is injured because of it, they can sue you for the same damages listed above. General liability is an absolute necessity for every business.

Commercial Auto

Do you have any company vehicles? If the answer is yes, then you need commercial auto insurance. This special vehicle insurance protects your company if you or an employee causes an accident while driving a company vehicle. Whether you have one company car, have given company cars to several employees, or have an entire fleet of commercial vehicles, they all need to be covered by commercial auto insurance.

These days, it seems that you are always hearing about individuals suing businesses, or companies having to make payouts to customers because of faulty products. People are always looking for a quick buck, and suing a company is an easy way to do it. That's why it's so important that you as a business owner protect yourself and your company. You have to ensure that you are protected from every angle, or you run the risk of losing your entire company because of one accident or one faulty product.

Hard-and-fast Rules About Homeowners Insurance

There is good reason why homeowners insurance is required for all homeowners to carry. Not only does homeowners insurance protect your home and personal property, it can also protect you against liability if someone is injured or their property is damaged while on your property.

You Need to Know How Much to Buy

Before going out and buying insurance from the first provider you find in the phone book or online, you should do some research to know how much coverage you need and what options to include on your policy. This will help you get a little more educated on what insurance does or does not cover and what options you will need and which you can say “no thanks” to when you are talking to prospective insurance agents about your coverage needs.

Order a Realistic Deductible

Your insurance deductible refers to the amount that you will pay out of your own pockets if you need to file a claim before the insurance company jumps in to contribute. Therefore, the higher the deductible you agree to pay, the lower the risk for the insurance company and the lower your premium will be. Some people look at this when they are shopping for insurance and decide saving money by having the highest possible deductible is the best idea. However, you need to be realistic when considering what deductible is going to work best for you.

Hold the Deductible Amount in Savings

If you don’t have a lot of savings, then it is not going to make sense to have a deductible that exceeds the amount of disposable income you have sitting in your bank account. On the other hand, if you can commit to setting aside the amount of your deductible and not touching it for any other purpose, having a higher deductible might be an okay idea. For example, if you have a $10,000 deductible but you do not have $10,000 available, or a way to make $10,000 quickly if you need to file a claim, you should lower your deductible to something more manageable.

Make Your Home Safe for Maximum Savings

There are a lot of discounts available to you if you can make an effort to make your house safer. You will likely qualify for great discounts on your homeowners insurance if you have a security system installed. Sprinkler systems can get you discounts of up to 20%, as will security systems and fire alarms that will alert the fire department and the police in the event that your home is broken into or a fire starts.

Review Your Policy Regularly

Finally, one of the best ways to save on your homeowners insurance year after year is to review your policy before it automatically renews. As you get older and your life circumstances change, your homeowners’ insurance needs and your budget for homeowners insurance in Santa Maria, CA, will change as well. You do not have the same insurance needs now as you did even five years ago, so you will want to update your policy as you go, shopping around at the end of each term, whether that is every year or every six months.

Free Vin Check From The National Insurance Crime Bureau

The National Insurance Crime Bureau Announces Free “VINCheck” for Unrecovered Stolen Vehicles
For the second time in as many years, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) is launching another free service to help protect the nation’s consumers.

Over one million vehicles have been stolen annually in the United States since 1986. With an annual average recovery rate of just 63 percent, several million vehicles remain unaccounted for and could possibly end up being purchased by unsuspecting consumers.

To help prevent innocent people from buying a stolen vehicle and to help recover stolen vehicles that may enter the commerce stream in the future, NICB today is activating the nation’s first Unrecovered Stolen Vehicle Database as a free service to the public.

Anyone anywhere can now run a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through this database and determine if it has been reported stolen by one of NICB’s over 1000 member insurance companies.

To check a vehicle simply visit the NICB web site, and follow the on-screen directions for the VINCheck search feature which is located on the home page.

In recent months, NICB Special Agents have identified numerous stolen vehicles that were in the process of being sold by auto dealers or restored by collectors. These examples demonstrate how even car-savvy people can be duped into unknowingly buying a stolen vehicle. If it happens to experts then the risks are even greater for ordinary consumers.

Seeing a way to help mitigate that risk and to provide another free service to help protect the nation’s drivers, NICB sought and received the cooperation of its member companies to make this feature possible.

It was in this same spirit of cooperation and assistance that NICB’s member companies provided their Hurricane Katrina-related auto claims information to create the flood vehicle database. This unprecedented effort was launched on October 17, 2005, and amassed over 300,000 vehicle and boat records which gave prospective buyers critical information to prevent the fraudulent sale of potentially flood-damaged vehicles.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau is the nation’s leading non-profit organization exclusively dedicated to preventing, detecting and defeating insurance fraud and vehicle theft through information analysis, investigations, training and public awareness.

Anyone with information concerning auto theft and insurance fraud can report it anonymously by calling toll-free 1-800-TEL-NICB (1-800-835-6422).

5 Tips To Help Make Shopping For Insurance Easier

Learning to spot a quality insurance agency, such as Jonathan Stringer Alfa Insurance, can feel taxing at times. After all, homeowners insurance is required if you own a home, auto insurance is required in most states, and other types of insurance like life insurance and renters’ insurance are just smart things to have. You will probably find yourself looking for insurance at least once during your lifetime. Here are some of the important tips to remember to make this process easier.

Know What You Need

The first thing you need to arm yourself with is a knowledge of how much insurance you need. While some people go out and look for the cheapest policy that meets state and federal insurance requirements, this is not a great way to shop for insurance. Working with an agent who can help you identify where you need coverage and how much of a deductible you need is going to be extremely helpful to you. For example, a lower deductible is going to cost more, but if you have to file a claim on your insurance, a lower deductible may save you financially.

Find the Best Agent

The most important part of finding the right insurance policy means being able to find the right insurance agent. There are many ways to do this. You can ask family and friends for recommendations. You should also do some of your search online looking at reviews of insurance agents from past and present clients. Working with an agent and an insurance company with whom you know other people have had good experiences will be more likely to ensure that you don’t get burned by your insurance agent when it comes to filing a claim.

Compare Policies

When you have found an insurance agent and company that you want to work with, or have at least narrowed it down to 3 or 4 possible contenders, make sure to compare the quotes that each has given you against each other. Some policies, although they might look the same, will have slight variances in coverage. This is why it is very important not to shop based on price alone since 2 companies that give similar quotes on price will cover slightly different or majorly different situations.

Reconsider a Renewal

If you have insurance currently and are just looking to make a change, be sure to shop around before your policy renews. The reason for this is because you might find that your insurance policy has changed slightly and no longer provides the coverage that you need. Or you might qualify for a discount now that you didn’t when you initially bought or last renewed your existing policy. When it comes to insurance, you should always make sure that you are paying the right amount, paying for what you need, and not paying for what you don’t. Even if you think that your policy has stayed the same, you want to make sure that you know what it includes every policy renewal term just to be on the safe side.

Look for a Good Local Reputation

Last but not least; find an insurance agent and company, such as Jonathan Stringer Alfa Insurance, that has a good local reputation. There are a lot of nationwide insurance providers out there who offer competitive prices on the coverage that you need, but when it comes to filing a claim, it won’t be as comforting to you to talk to someone on the phone. The value of having a local agent who you know you can trust when you need someone to show compassion or understanding cannot be overstated.
